Pricing: can we make pay-what-you-want work?
We're making a bet on giving our customers the power to choose how much our services are worth to them.
We understand that every business is unique and has different needs when it comes to software development. That's why we offer a pay-what-you-want pricing model, allowing you to choose what you pay for our services.
We know it's a gamble
If you would be too worried that nobody will pay for your software, you are not the only one. It's a risk and we know it. PWYW pricing is undoubtedly a risky strategy. By giving customers the freedom to choose their own prices, we're essentially gambling that they'll be honest and fair. There's a chance that some customers might take advantage of this system and pay very little, or even nothing at all. However, we believe that the benefits of pay-what-you-want pricing outweigh the risks. Only time will tell if we're right in our believes or not.
Opening the pricing data
One approach to try and celebrate our paying users is to display their statistics on a monthly/all-time leaderboard and provide some free marketing for them. We envision this to be a motivation for our users to not just type $0 into the pricing box and to reward those who put in a higher number.
Minimum pricing for support
Software - once developed - doesn't need to scale man power proportionally (unlike consulting), however one area that does is support. Support takes time, is unpredictable and
For those who meet the minimum price of $100/month we guarantee priority support. This means we can scale the support team as we need to as well as treating our
Does this mean you will be ignored if you don't cross this threshold? Absolutely not. Make sure you submit your request and we will still provide you support.
Expect updates
We'll regularly post updates here but long term we would like to have a dashboard with our pricing statistics over time. These should be broken down by service and detail:
- what percentage of the service users are paying something
- of the paying users, what is the highest, lowest and median dollar amount
To make sure that our customers are aware of any changes, we'll communicate updates through our website, social media channels, and email newsletters. We'll also encourage feedback from our customers, which will help us refine our pricing model over time.
While pay-what-you-want pricing is certainly a gamble, we believe that it has the potential to revolutionise the way we do business. By opening up our pricing data and empowering our customers to make informed decisions, we can create a fairer and more transparent pricing model. Of course, there are risks involved, but with careful planning and regular updates, we can minimise these risks and create a sustainable pricing strategy that works for everyone.
At KukriLabs, we're excited to explore the possibilities of pay-what-you-want pricing. Stay tuned for updates on our progress and join the conversation by sharing your thoughts on this innovative approach to pricing. Together, let's redefine the future of software development.
